Thesis Title: 'Personhood and Social Identity in Colonial Contexts: A Comparative Study of Phoenician and Greek Contact Situations in South Iberia and Central Italy'

About

My main interest lies in the archaeology and anthropology of cultural contact. I focus my research on understanding the different ways in which communities involved in contact situations construct their personhood and identity.

The period I am mainly interested in is 9th to 7th centuries BC -when Phoenicians and Greeks colonized the Western Mediterranean. However I am also concerned about modern colonialism and today's imperialism.

I try to compare three case studies for my thesis: Ancient Etruria, the Bay of Naples and Southwestern Iberia. To do so, I have adapted some concepts from Postcolonial theory, although I have found the Decolonizing framework -'el vuelco descolonial'- more critical and useful to my analysis.

I have done fieldwork in Cyprus, Italy and Spain.
